Welcome to FirstStep Together

FirstStep Together is a grassroots group that works to support and empower racialized community members. We provide confidential and culturally sensitive conversation, intervention and support that is customized to the diverse and unique needs of the community members.

Through the lived experiences that include our recovery story, growth, and resilience, we aim to inspire people with our stories, offer mentorship, support, while advocating for their needs and helping them integrate.

Social Events & Networking

FirstStep Together organizes social events and networking opportunities for newcomers in Calgary. These events serve as platforms for individuals to connect with others in similar situations, fostering a sense of community and belonging. Through these gatherings, individuals can share experiences, exchange information, and build supportive relationships with established members of the community.

Peer Support

“Peer emphasizes recovery and resilience, highlighting that while each journey is personal, no one has to travel it alone.” Peer support involves connecting individuals who share similar experiences, allowing them to offer each other practical advice, emotional support, and encouragement.

We are proud to announce the success of our roundtable event hosted by FirstStep Together Society (FST) FirstStepTogether 

In an inspiring effort to foster inclusivity and equality, we brought together 30 organizational leaders from 17 grassroots associations/societies and community leaders, along with political dignitaries and Indigenous elders Charlotte Macleod, engage in meaningful discussions on combating the rise of racism in our communities.

Multi-generational community engagement event

On Friday, February 23, 2024, FirstStep Together partnered with Planet Youth and Trelis Society to host a Meaning of Well-being program. This collaborative effort aimed to bridge generational gaps and promote cultural awareness surrounding well-being. Through interactive sessions and cultural activities, participants explored the diverse facets of well-being and exchanged valuable insights. By fostering intergenerational networking and cultural understanding, the program sought to empower individuals to cultivate a more holistic approach to well-being in their lives and communities.
